Abandoned Chairs
Amid dust and decay, it’s easy to forget that people once lived, worked, and played in these buildings. But the chairs, left to stand solemn sentry at the border between past and present, remind us: this was once a place full of people.
A grandfather silently reading the newspaper. A tired mother resting her feet. A patient leaning back in the dentist’s chair, mouth agape. How many lives have these chairs been witness to?
Chairs are functional pieces of furniture. No matter where a chair has been left abandoned—in a hair salon, or in a tea parlor, or perhaps at a writers’ desk—each once served as a respite for the people who inhabited these buildings.
