The city’s impressive architectural prowess is now a remnant of Detroit’s rich past. What happened to this once-booming metropolis?
Like the river that runs through it, Detroit’s prosperity has ebbed and flowed throughout the centuries. At its peak, Michigan’s capital city was the bustling epicenter of a booming auto industry.
As factories and garages sprung up through the city, so did a plethora of beautiful churches, schools, homes, and theaters.
Swooping balconies, stunning attention to detail, and gorgeous arched ceilings are a clear indication: Detroit definitely enjoyed its affluence while it lasted.
But as foreign industry competition picked up steam, Detroit began to lose its grip on its esteemed automaking status.
Still, the broad stroke balconies and charred remains of fire-stricken buildings remained. Their beauty is still enduring, but the shadows of a bygone era still linger.
